Le sei sonate proposte in questo terzo volume,
composte tra il 1798 e il 1801, inaugurano un nuovo fronte di ricerca che avvia
ai capolavori della maturità e anticipa le rivoluzionarie intuizioni che
caratterizzeranno lo stile tardo.
Sono
gli anni in cui il compositore,
felicemente inserito nella vita sociale
e culturale della città, consolida a Vienna il proprio prestigio professionale
e afferma con orgoglio di sentirsi «migliore e più maturo non solo come artista
ma anche come uomo».
Condivide
con J.G. Herder e gli
autori dello Sturm und Drang la
certezza che il cuore (Herz), e non l’arido intelletto,
rappresenti la cifra emblematica della nuova coscienza della totalità e lo
strumento attraverso cui l’uomo può intuire il mistero cosmico, in quanto
l’assoluto è colto soltanto tramite intuizioni sublimi.
Sperimenta
la gioia dell’amicizia, conosce le lacerazioni legate alla passione bruciante
per Giulietta Guicciardi, ma anche il dolore causato
dalla consapevolezza della propria inguaribile sordità.
Allo
smarrimento e alla disperazione, subentra la rassegnazione.
La
reazione non si fa però attendere, grazie alla musica e alla coscienza del suo
straordinario talento. Una forza che nasce tutta da dentro, nonostante le
tentazioni suicide di cui ci lascia drammatica testimonianza il testamento di Heiligenstadt.
Le
composizioni create a cavallo tra i due secoli scaturiscono da tale
straordinaria energia interiore in grado di trasformare un ostacolo in una
sfida e in un inaspettato volano di crescita umana e creativa.

The six Sonatas in this third
volume, composed between 1798 and 1801, open indeed a new research front,
heading to the mature masterworks and anticipating the revolutionary intuitions
of the late style.
These are the years when in Vienna the
composer strengthens his professional renown, successfully integrated into the
social and cultural life of the city, Beethoven proudly states to feel «better
and more mature, not only as an artist, but also as a man».
He shares indeed with J.G. Herder and
the Sturm und Drang authors the belief that
the heart (Herz) rather than the arid
intellect represents the emblematic character of the new consciousness of
totality and the tool through which the man can sense the cosmic mystery,
because the absolute is grasped only through sublime intuitions.
He experiences the joy of friendship
and the wounds connected to the burning passion for Giulietta
Guicciardi, but also begins to be aware of the
consciousness of his incurable deafness, that with anguish confides only to few
very close friends.
To dismay and despair, resignation
follows.
Reaction anyway is not very far, thanks
to music and to the awareness of his extraordinary talent.
It is a strength arising from the
inside, notwithstanding the suicidal temptations that the Heiligenstadt
Testament dramatically testifies.
In the end, anyway, the awareness of an
important mission to dutifully accomplish prevails.
The compositions created at the turn of
the century are the fruit of this outstanding inner energy, able to turn a
hurdle into a challenge and to be an unexpected driver of human and creative
growth.
